About the Campaign

Critical Needs Vanni 2014 is a fundraising campaign for 100 days to raise $100,000 to provide aid to young people affected by war in the the Vanni region of Sri Lanka. Your donation will help provide Vocational Training and Essential Care for one year to youth and children in the three Vanni districts of Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Vaddakachchi.

Our campaign runs for 100 days from September 10 to December 18, 2014. We hope you will donate.

Who we are

Critical Needs Vanni is an initiative of the Canadian Tamil diaspora.  Spear headed by the Canadian Tamil Aid, our campaign is supported by the very important and generous sponsorship of Toronto-based Tamil businesses.

All members of our organizing team are 100% volunteers and 100% of the funds you donate will go directly to our recipients providing vocational training and essential care in the Vanni. We have secured sponsorship to cover online donation transaction fees, so that every cent you donate goes directly to aid children and youth in the Vanni. All donations are tax deductible and tax receipts will be issued by TCCT.

Background

The Vanni is a region in the North-East of Sri Lanka that was severely affected by a thirty-year civil war that ended in April 2009. Since then, hundreds of thousands people have been internally displaced and in need of vital immediate and long-term international assistance.

As the scope of all needs is much too large for a single campaign, we have focused on helping children and the youth, as this is where we see the most hope for change, especially change that can be sustained over a long period of time.

There is hope

Our campaign focuses on three organizations with overlapping needs in the districts of Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Vaddakachchi. These districts are three of the most war-affective places within the Vanni, but also where there is much hope to drastically improve the lives of children and youth.
